History of Kanchanaburi Highway District
The Kanchanaburi Highway District, under the jurisdiction of Highway Office 12 (Suphanburi), Department of Highways, was established by Department of Highways Order No. J.1.9/4/2531 dated April 19, 1988. It was the 77th highway district out of a total of 104 highway districts. Operations began in the 1989 fiscal year.
It oversees a total of 541.708 kilometers of roads, which were received from the Ban Pong Highway District (Nakhon Pathom), the Suphanburi Highway District,
and the Kanchanaburi Road Construction Center. The control is divided into 6 highway maintenance divisions:
1. Thong Pha Phum Highway Maintenance Division
2. Sai Yok Highway Maintenance Division
3. Nong Bua Highway Maintenance Division
4. Lat Ya Highway Maintenance Division
5. Pak Phraek Highway Maintenance Division
6. Sangkhla Buri Highway Maintenance Division
Their duties include maintaining, repairing, and repairing completed and opened highways to ensure they remain in the same condition as when they were newly constructed. In addition, they carry out activities such as strengthening, extending service life, installing and enhancing existing structures to improve highway condition, convenience, and safety for road users. Some work must be continuous throughout the year, some must be done periodically, and some must be done immediately. They also coordinate with government and private sector agencies in the area and implement the policies of the Department of Highways to achieve objectives, considering road users and society as a whole.
In fiscal year 2533 (1990), the Kanchanaburi Highway District received the Yang Ko Highway Maintenance Division and additional routes from the Ratchaburi Highway District.
The Highway Office No. 13 (Prachuap Khiri Khan) increased the controlled road length of the Kanchanaburi Highway District to 638.002 kilometers.
In 1994, the Kanchanaburi Highway District was approved to add the Sri Sawat Highway Section, sharing its control area from the Lad Ya Highway Section. In the 2005 fiscal year, the Kanchanaburi Highway District received the Tha Maka Highway Section and the Tha Muang Highway Section from the Nakhon Pathom Highway District and the Ratchaburi Highway District. The Kanchanaburi Highway District is responsible for 22 national highways, totaling 844.762 km (942.285 km with two lanes), divided into 3.905 km of concrete pavement and 930.380 km of asphalt pavement.
The workload is 2,541.627 and there are 10 highway maintenance divisions under its control:
1. Pak Phraek Highway Maintenance Division 6. Sai Yok Highway Maintenance Division
2. Lat Ya Highway Maintenance Division 7. Tha Muang Highway Maintenance Division
3. Nong Bua Highway Maintenance Division 8. Si Sawat Highway Maintenance Division
4. Dan Makham Tia Highway Maintenance Division 9. Thong Pha Phum Highway Maintenance Division
5. Tha Maka Highway Section 10. Sangkhlaburi Highway Section
Subsequently, construction and expansion of traffic lanes, improvement and rehabilitation of roads under their responsibility were carried out. Currently, in fiscal year 2019, the Kanchanaburi Highway District is responsible for 34 highway routes, 43 controlled sections, with an actual length of 841.047 km. Of these, 978.107 km consists of 2-lane routes.
